We described this small passive unit as a “volume control in a box,” and were amazed when it kicked the butt of a few very expensive preamplifiers. Passives aren’t for everyone, but if you’re one of those people who are going “DAC direct” you might want to spend a few hundred bucks to get clean, clear sound—and all without a power cord.
Dynamic Sound Associates (DSA) and Analogue Productions hosted a two room exhibition of high-quality vinyl pressings, along with award winning systems. DSA always impresses, no matter the show or venue, and this time at the Florida Audio Expo was no different.
RJS Acoustics brought the MD6 Bass Augmentation Speaker System, Backert Labs showed their new Rhumba Extreme 1.3 tube preamplifier, Pass Labs brings the power, and Luminous Audio Technology ties it all together.
At the top of the system, well more like on-top of the amplifiers was this little box from Luminous Audio Technology. It is a passive preamplifier, but built out to the hilt with remote control, advanced attenuation, and LED display. Nothing sounds like a Luminous Audio Technology AXIOM II Walker Mod Preamp, because that’s the idea — it sounds like nothing.
